Anna-Marie,
We pretty much always need help with set-up and take-down of the event. The teams step in and do this, so it's fairlyeasy to join in once the trailer of field elements arrives at the venue. Also, usually representatives from the competing teams do field reset, but I'm sure that if we're short of people or someone wants to take a break that we could use a helping hand.

OCCRA is an offseason series of competitions (3 or 4 regionals, 1 championship) in Oakland County, Michigan, in which roughly thirty teams participate. It is similar to the FIRST structure, in that we have a kickoff event where the game is revealed. The students are given about a month to build with knowledge of the part, size, and tool restrictions.
The main difference between FIRST and OCCRA is that OCCRA requires that the robots are completely student-designed and -built. OCCRA does offer workshops hosted by mentors at the beginning of the season, but from there, the students are responsible for how everything runs.
