Not taking anything away from the amazing accomplishment of 71, 1625, and 910 in that match (or in the rest of their championship run), but that match was kinda a fluke. The red alliance wins that match 9 out of 10 times. If the HP penalty doesnt happen, red wins. If 25 doesn't tip (and therefor allow 71 to unload the most amazing volley seen this year), red wins. If red hits 2 more shots, red wins. If blue hits 2 less shots, red wins. If red has one more robot on the ramp, red wins. Etc etc etc.
But that aside, it was the best match ever played in FIRST. 138-137, or 137-133, either way. It had everything. Yes, even defense (which you wouldn't think it had by the score). Those bots were just so good, that even when defended, all it takes is a split second of open fire and they can put up huge amounts of points. Autonomous was decided by 1 ball. After that Red looked to be dominating, until 25 tips right before the transition to the final period. Then Beatty unloads a barrage of scoring never seen before. The goal was literally overflowing with balls. Human players jump right into action, loading up 1114 for a return volley, but after penalties, it turned up just shy.
It absolutely crushed the spirits of the #1 seeded alliance, but they put up a valiant effort in the 3rd match, but that match was clearly in favor of the Beatty, Winnovation, Foley alliance. It was honestly the greatest match, and greatest elimination series, I have ever witnessed, dwarfing even the Newton SF2 series (and the members of Team 25 I spoke to agreed on that).
