What I expect them to do is to FLOOD the market with Wiis. None of this waiting list stuff. Availability + Low Price > Waiting list + High Price. Instead of signing up to be called in 3 months when the next shipment comes in, and then deciding later you'd rather have a PS3 they will count on that impulse buy.

There will be way more Wiis available at launch than there were Xbox 360s. At the launch of the 360 in North America, there were only approximately 326,000 units, of which 40,000 were re-sold on eBay. Microsoft stated that by the end of 2005, it sold roughly 500,000 units in North America.
Sony is following in Microsoft's footsteps, selling two different PS3 packages, but they also recently announced that it will have 400,000 PS3s ready in North America and another 100,000 in Japan for the system's launch.
Now Nintendo, on the other hand, plans to ship 4 million Wii units worldwide by the end of the year. Keep in mind that the Wii isn't launching in Japan until December second, and not in Europe until December 8th. So I doubt that Nintendo will be having any shortages as severe as 360 had or PS3 will have.
