The 8722 is still relatively new imho (like intel duo core) and hence I'd prefer to keep away from it in the meantime. I've found 8520 already suitable for the task, not to mention alot of unused extra features. Sourcing around, sometimes i feel AVR's mega1280 very featurefull too.
