We actually did just run right off the shaft (with 9 tooth sprockets and #35 chain connecting the 3 rollers). The balls would actually bind the roller system when in deployment mode (we would reverse the direction of the motor), stalling the Large CIM (pickup had no problems). And I believe that the roller diameters were 1 1/2", 2", 3".
