Exclamation Warning: 1213's DeWalt 1/2" keyed final drive

To any who may be using 1213's final drive adapters mentioned here:

This year we failed to secure the steel ring that usually surounds the anti-backdrive rollerbearings in the final drive. The spring steel piece that would normally secure it is too hard to drill out to accomadate the larger shaft, so last year we left it off, but epoxyed the ring onto the black plastic piece that holds said spring. We did not secure the ring this time; the ring bound up, and blew out the side of the transmission.

We're deciding just what to do about it. The epoxy worked fine for two events last year, but we didn't like what would happen if it did not work this time. We're deciding whether to leave the ring off, or EDM the spring steel retainer.

I doubt many will be using our setup, but I thought I'd better warn you about the malfunction. PM me if you are, and I'll get back to you with the solution.

Jack
