Care to reference the rule that says that? It's advisable that the RC lights are visible, so field staff / IFI reps can easily see and confirm your RC is ready to go. Unless I'm blind (or if it managed to slip through a team update .. ), I have yet to see a rule that says that the lights on the RC have to be visible from 3 feet away, standing in front of the robot.

The AB indicator light on the other hand, needs to be visible (not sure on the spec, but I know it is required on the bots this year. Perhaps you're getting the RC and the new indicator confused?
