Texas has 52 teams, 14 Regional Champions, One Championship event winner (Team 1, ironically from Michigan), and One Hall of Fame team (16) attending this year.
West Michigan has 55 teams, 20 Regional Champions, Five Championship event winners (67, 71, 111, 469, 494), and Three Hall of Fame teams (47, 67, 111).
The Midwest (Michigan in particular) has long been the source of a majority of the "perennial powerhouse" teams in FIRST, mainly because of the sponsorships of GM, Delphi, Chrysler, and Ford (I think 217 earned their mention
), as well as the tremendous success of Beatty and Wildstang. There are very few places you can see so much of FIRST history at one time (WMR, GLR, IRI, and Championship are pretty much the only times). You absolutely cannot afford to not attend WMR.
