Nope, you're right on. I'm going to yell this super-loud, in the hope that people will stop spreading misinformation:

IF SOMETHING IS NO LONGER SOLD, BUT USED TO BE COTS, IT IS LEGAL SO LONG AS IT IS UNMODIFIED.

This has been the case for weeks now. So, as long as your IFI v1.0 wheels are unmodified, and have been assembled since this year's kickoff, they are perfectly legal.
