Re: Where is your team submitting your Regional Chairman's Award entry?

Team 1014 is submitting at Pittsburgh, our only regional.

Quote:
We have grown into a team that celebrates a richer FIRST experience because we submit entries to the Chairman's Award and the Woodie Flowers Award. Funny how that works, the effort that you put forth comes back to you ten-fold. If you aren't currently submitting entries to a regional Chairman's Award or Woodie Flowers Award, think about it and do it next year - you won't ever regret it.
I couldn't agree more.

Some of the best experiences we have had as a team have come because of stuff we started doing for the Chairman's Award and now do because they are fun and rewarding. This year we were asked to help with a fundraiser for a local nonprofit counseling center. They needed a platform to launch 10000 rubber ducks into a pond for rubber duck race. We were asked to help because the group putting on the fundraiser included some of our team sponsors who knew the kinds of things we did. It turned out to be a really fun project (except for tearing down and hauling away the platform) involving design, materials research and construction. An excellent introduction to what we do. We also got the chance to demonstrate our robot (the kids loved balls shooting into the air) and the Lego League teams. This exposure definitely helped our Lego League program grow from two to five teams this year. So we had a great experience, a lot of fun, got a chance to use engineering skills, helped build up the team of the future and got a lot of good press and community good will.
