If you want a long-term project, you might have fun making a little box with RS-232 on one side, a simple processor in the middle, and IRDA/IRCOMM on the other. Then any Palm with infrared (that's basically all of them), and many Pocket PC devices, should be able to talk with the dashboard port through it. But I stress that it'll be a
long-term project, not suitable for this year's competition season.
