254 actually won in 2003 and 2004, but at different regionals.
1657 won Israel for the 2nd year in a row (along with their 2nd straight Regional Championship).
Chairman's Winner:
365 sneaks it out finally. It will be a close decision, but MOE does so much for FIRST in Delaware and through-out the Mid-Atlantic.
Honorable Mentions:
842 will come very close to winning it all. They were EI winners in 2005, and honorable mentions in 2006. They get almost no recognition outside of the Southwest, but they are a team very worthy the Chairman's Award. If they don't win in 2007, they'll win in 2008 or 2009.
612 has emerged as a super-power Chairman's force. They won a regional with two other 2006 RCA winners submitting at it (384 and 1002). With the new focus on the past 3 years (where virtually all of their Chairman's acheivements have occurred), Chantilly Robotics will be guaranteed a spot at the Championship event next year.
The final spot is tough, with 79, 217, 236, and 503 all deserving of recognition. I think 503 will, for the second year in a row, get the honorable mention. Frog Force has become a perennial Chairman's threat, and I think they will continue to be for years to come.
In the next few years expect to see 365, 842, 612, 75, and 1002 each join the FIRST Hall of Fame. The two 5-time winners (79 and 236) each have very strong historical records, and a strong contenders, but their resumes may not fit the new focus on recent (past 3 year's) accomplishments, especially enough to override teams like 842, 75, and 612.
