Re: Potomac Vex League (PVL) Events

Results hot off the (webcast) wire http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/robotics/
East Coast Time:
13:20 Match Q11 - Vexy Things (FVC 3549) from Alexandria just rained balls into their high goal to do their part of a 3549 & 3541 alliance win over their opponents by 104 to 33. Great job VT!

13:25 Match Q13 - Holly Rollers (FVC 3065) & 3794 lost 23 to 55, despite controlling the Atlas Ball. :-(

13:50 Match Q16 - GFHS Fight Club (3148) & Suburban Legend (3486) seemed to fall victim to field or transmitter problems or robot technical problems. 3148 loaded up with 7 balls in the initial seconds of the match, but were unable to unload them after lining up on the high goal. Their ally appeared to encounter the same problem when they stalled at the foot of the other red high goal just a little later. GFHS loses 6 to 46

13:55 Match Q17 - The Battlefield HS Robocats (3317) and Mr Roboto (2024) win in a match where 2024 is used to score high while 3317 uses their bulk and strong drive train to complement 2024's scoring by playing tough defense and controlling the Atlas in the crucial final seconds of the match. Result; Robocats & 2024 collaborate to win 85 to 15. Go Purple team!

14:05 Match Q19 - GFHS Gears of War (3013) & RoboDox (599) used 599's great 4-5 balls per dump to outscore their opponents, even though they were not able to get the Atlas onto their side of the field. 599 & 3013 pull out a win 53 to 44 without the Atlas or the Autonomous bonus.

15:24 Match Q33 - 1st Salem Vex Team (3739) reached into S.H.I.R.T.'s (3679's) ball basket and took one out. Then they carried it over to their own high goal and scored with it. ROTFL! It was like the cartoon scenes where Bugs Bunny tweaks someone's nose or gives them a kiss. (Don't feel badly for SHIRT, their robot is working very well, even though they didn't win this match (Atlas ball?) - They will need this to keep them humble ).

15:32 Match Q35 - Holy Rollers (3065) & BAPHLE (3391 - Thiele's Pwny Express bot) - Using the the Holy Roller's Atlas ball work, these allies take BAPHLE's high goal scoring to the bank and win 60 to 33! Go Rollers!

15:50 Match Q39 - Gears of War (3013) & RoboDox (599) ride 599's high goal bucket dumps and 3013's successful Atlas Ball herding to another win. 52 to 17 this time.

16:33 Match Q48 - GFHS Fight Club (3148) and Dark Matter (3495) use 3495's quick 3-ball scoop to score high while 3148 bulks up on balls in their pick-up system and then does Atlas ball duty for the alliance. However, their opponents steadily chip away at their lead and eventually pass them. Even with the Atlas ball, Fight Club and 3495 go down for a canvas nap, 30 to 49. :-(

16:38 Match 49 - Vexy Things (3549) & Panthers (3642) vs Robocats (3317) & Team Unlimited (2013). As before the VT gather a bushel of balls; but this time the Robocats are between VT and the high goals for over half of the match, seriously cutting into the VT's scoring. However, VT does get to rain down one excellent softball downpour into a goal. The Robocat alliance ends up with the Atlas. The final score is 82 to 27 to the Robocat/Unlimited Alliance. This Northern Virginia duel is decided by Unlimited scoring, Robocat defense, and the Atlas Ball. Go VT! Go Robocat Purple!

17:15 Match Q57 - Holy Rollers (3065) & NNEZ (3703 from China) vs 3289 & 3349 is another match that appears to be marred by technical difficulties (The Rollers bot was unable to manuever for the majority of the match - Could have been RF interference, could have been a malfunction on the bot). This low scoring duel goes against the Rollers 39 to 0 :-(

17:30 Match Q59 - Gears of War (3013) & 3536 vs 3218 & 3728 - This Time GFHS does some scoring but appears to have been too successful loading their conveyor with balls. Getting them out and into the goal is seems too hard until the final 6-7 seconds of the match when they unclog and send some where they belong. These help, but the opposing alliance has the advantage; and our home town boys wind up on the wrong end of a 14 to 58 score.

So, If my notes are correct, after 67 matches, the W-L-T records of these teams are:
3013 Gears of War 2-1-0
3065 Holy Rollers 1-2-0
3148 Fight Club 0-2-0
3317 Robocats 2-0-0
3549 Vexy Things 1-1-0

<< Inserted by Blake during an "edit"... Word on the street is that at least one of Fight Club's matches (#48) will be replayed tomorrow because signs are pointing to some source of inteference disrupting both Fight Club's and Dark Matter's communication between their transmitters and robots. It will be interesting to see how many of the matches above need to be replayed. From my seat in front of computer screen displaying the webcast, 3013, 3065, 3148, and 3317 all looked like they were having trouble all day long. 3549 didn't seem to be affected, but perhaps they were too in a couple matches where I thought they would have performed better. Stay tuned. >>

More Qualifying Matches, the Draft, and the Elimination Matches tomorrow.... Good Luck to the PVL region's teams! Good luck to everyone!
