Actually, it might be necessary if he does anything beyond show with that car. The Impreza is well-suited for a drift racing car, and legitimate spoilers do help stabilize the car (keep in mind, he would need to replace the engine with something with a little more power, among other parts, before that would really be an issue).
Ridiculously oversized spoilers, though, are unreasonable.
