As an outsider looking in so to speak... I can say the young people I've met and worked with that are part of FIRST do seem more sure of them selfs and willing to take on new projects.
Building a robot in just six weeks has got to have a positive effect on a persons confidence. After taking a box of parts and building something that actually does what you designed it to do is just amazing.
