A lower cost solution? (I found this website and immediately thought of this thread.)
Home built ~$500 machine with $0.37/pound material. But there is a BIG "yeah, but..." attached to these prices.
(It's sugar!) 
I forgot to add that this "printing" is exciting. Wish I had it many moons ago building architectural models in college....
