I can think of a few things you might try.

1. You may have the reciever box still in the default program mode. You
need to switch to User Program mode. This is done by flipping one of
the switches on the 4 switch DIP, next to the programming port. As
per the FIRST manual, you need to flip switch 2 down and switches
1,3,4 up (see page 26 of the "The Robot" section).

2. Check that +5V is getting to the Stamp2. You can check this by
plugging in logic power, then check that all the amber lights are on.
If not then you might have a blown +5V fuse.

3. Use the 9pin cable provided in the First kit.
