October 18, 2007
AVON
Avon High School's Robotics Team 1124, the ÜberBots, with its alliance partners, won the ninth annual Bash at the Beach Robotics competition in Old Lyme.
The team had a 12-1 record in the competition.
The team also won the Gracious Professionalism and Spirit Award. The ÜberBots helped four separate teams during the competition, providing spare parts and technical ingenuity to teams that would have otherwise dropped out, including one team that the ÜberBots faced in the quarterfinals.
The ÜberBots, sponsored by UTC Fire and Security, has 40 students from Avon High School.
At this event, Avon students teamed with students from Brookfield, Bethel and Glastonbury high schools.
Teams will compete in March in the state regional event. Winners will meet in Georgia in April for the national championships. Game are designed by a panel of engineers and other professionals.
The goal is to teach students teamwork, management and technology.
