Check out this guy's tutorial, you could almost just use Wordpress for the whole website (it's a nice little mod for a CMS). Wordpress can do just about anything. It's also very easy to theme. Don't think Wordpress is just for bloggging, that's oh so wrong. Personally, I would recommend not having Joomla!, Wordpress and phpBB all in one.

Concerning phpBB, I would use phpBB3 if you're not. Their's many advantages like no spam and better .. everything pretty much.
