Jake, you are right. 'being number 1 used to mean a lot more than
it does now.' But, I believe that is by design. The FIRST events
are competitions not tournaments. What is the different? A tournament
is a series of elimination contests with the intent of producing a
champion. A competition is a series of contests which allows teams to
test their skills and to see how they measure up against their peers.
A tournament is about winning and losing. A competition is about doing
your best.
