I know Canadians who refer to it as Nationals. Woodie and Dean still refer to it as Nationals.

Is the proper term Championship Event? Yes. Will I refer to it as such in any team published documents? Yes. In passing conversation however, it has been, and will continue to be my habit to call it Nationals.

It's like when the EduBot was changed to "Robovation". Did anyone start calling it Robovation in casual conversation? I know I didn't.

I don't see any harm in using any of the above interchangeably in a casual conversation. If you're producing something to be distributed to sponsors, media, etc, then certainly you should use whatever name is officially sanctioned.
