The first thing that strikes me is the fact that the word 'vet' ("to vet was originally a horse-racing term") and
hurdling and
tetras are related through horses, what this means I have no idea. The second thing is that 'vetting' could relate to the pseudo-hint about stocks, jello, and k'nex: "Vetting can refer to the process of analyzing stocks, bonds, and any other securities and financial instruments before committing money."
