Re: Why the rules have obvious problems

What makes you think the rules have problems? Maybe they want you to take an intentional penalty to get your other balll down, or to knock the opponents ball down before the end. The thing that is confusing is that in the animation and the "human played game"(not sure what it's actually called) is that they are obviously showing the robots break the rules. Usually when they have a robot break the rules in one of those, they freeze the game and explain the penalty, however with the 6ft rule they didnt. It is possible that the rules are messed up, or it is possible that the people who ran those games just forgot about that rule, or didnt know about it. Even is it is not what they intended for and they did mess up on it, give them a break, it's not easy to create rules that in 1 day tens of thousands of people will be dissecting the rules, and they need to find the correct way to word it so teams cant "lawyer" the rules. I found a couple of loopholes, however I am not going to bring them up, because I completely agree with this statement
Quote:
When reading these Rules, please use
technical common sense (engineering thinking) rather than “lawyering” the interpretation and splitting
hairs over the precise wording in an attempt to find loopholes. Try to understand the reasoning behind
a rule.
If you can come up with an original solution for the problem that follows the rules go for it, but don't spend time finding ways around the rules. Odds are the GDC will close the loophole after hearing about it.
