Our team has a lockable box for the robot.
A competitor team locks the box with a combination lock that we do not know the combination to.
They fax the combo to FIRST and we get it at the competition from FIRST (though you should always have the phone number of the locking team handy just in case FIRST can't find it on Thurs. morning!)
Using this method, we can drive our robot to the various competitions. It takes a dedicated 'drive team' to give up 24 hours each way to FL or TX or ??? but we think that it is worth it.
By the way, you must clear this method of getting the robot 'out of your hands' with FIRST BEFORE you actually do it. FIRST is flexible, but they need to OK things up front rather than after the fact.
