Chris,

During my four years in FIRST our team (Blue Lightning) grappled with this question quite frequently. We always had a problem coming up with a name because we to wanted the name to have something to do with the competition. Actually I think in truth we could never come up with a name we liked so we hoped the competition would help us. I think Hexcalibur was our best name it was named after the hexagon of the field, and our school is the blue knights so we figured excalibur was one of the more famous kinghts' swords. This past year we just went for the random name of AstroBot2000 and came up with a cute little bolt guy mascot. So there was a time when I would have agreed that the deadline could be moved up and it wouldn't be a bad idea for it to be...but I think sometimes the most creative names can come without the game or the robot design....and there's usally quite a storey behind them. But by the same token Hexcalibur it a prime argument in favor or moving the name deadline.

Some thoughts.
-Justin
