If the error LED blinks twice, it means that the remote is sending a non-repeating code. If it blinks four times, that means the remote sends a special key-down command code that is sent over and other until its released.

You might want to try removing ambient lighting and a cleaner power supply. We have had the board blink the error LED on one of our power supplies. Right now we've got it programmed just fine off of a 12V battery.

If it keeps erroring out, just try a new code on your universal remote.
