Few Questions regarding IR board

Hi,
my team managed to connect the IR board to a 9 Volt power supply with the 2 positive wires and the 2 ground (negative) wires.
We trained a remote control too. Now we only need to connect the IR board to the 4 digital inputs on the RC.
According to the manual there are 4 wires, each one for a digital input. We found those wires.
And there are 2 other (last white and black) wires witch don't connect to anything.
My question is: how do I do connect it to the digital port on the RC? With a PWM cable? If with a PWM cable so how do I connect 1 wire to it and where (there are 3 legs on the PWM cable)?
We tried connecting the wire to the signal leg on the RC on the digital ports, but when we tested it on the on-line terminal (in EasyC pro) it didn't recognize the digital port.

Another question:
Will the robot be controlled only in some range (the IR receiver range)?
If the robot turns 180 degrees it means I can't control it no more?

Thanks in advance.
