My comment about 'obsession with fairness' is more driven by the great lengths that FIRST goes to in order to be able to say the it is 'fair' for rookie teams.

Believe me, THIS COMPETITION IS NOT FAIR TO ROOKIES. There is nothing to be done about it. I wish that FIRST would get over this idea that it must be 'fair' for rookies.

Beyond this, FIRST sometimes goes to great cost and bother to avoid even the appearance of unfairness. I would much rather the political capital was spent educating us FIRST folks the definition of 'fair enough.'

So...

...I don't want to imply that I think that the pursuit of fairness is not a good thing. What I do want to say is that there can be too much of a good thing.
