Re: Hole Tolerance Help Needed.

It depends on how tight is tight, and how loose is loose.

If your axle is exactly 0.500 inches (measure it!), then 0.010 clearance will be a loose enough fit so that it slides out with no effort.

"Officially" there are machinist tables that list the class of fit and the tolerances necessary, but that's way beyond your question.

My best suggestion is to just drill a hole and see if it's loose enough - if not, use some sandpaper to open it up a little until it's OK.

As an alternative: Test bore several holes and try them with a piece of axle. Then report what you found here for the rest of us.
