This is the first year we've had a significant piece of the robot made out of steel. The part is about 12lbs and should be the heaviest thing on the bot by far. We're considering re-cutting it out of 3/8" aluminum, but this is the scrap that was available - we got it free, and aren't going to be pushing the limits of the FIRST cost accounting rules with the robot we're building this year. Actually, there was some discussion of making it out of titanium for the "wow!" factor, but that wasn't available.
