My team has done the polycarbonate enclosure thing before. that pic from 116 looks a lot like the "brain box" my ream worked on about the same time, but we never adopted the design. ours was almost the exact same but with 2 120mm fans and it was translucent blue plastic. ours didn't work out in the end though, when we forgot to take into account wiring. that ever so important flexible copper that links it all together is just a little more bulky than most people realize, and we never did try making a new box with an additional 1" on all directions.

we currently Velcro the parts to sheet metal attached to the frame covered with a Lexan plate that removes with several screws, and also has some hinged doors for frequently accessed parts like the programming port. this plastic sheet that covers the robot frame is also a convenient place for sponsor stickers to cover where there isn't anything interesting to look at through the clear plastic.
