Here's some food for thought. Carlos Bertucci, a member of the former Raychem team that won the 1995 FIRST Robotics Competition National Championship (in their rookie year!), went on to compete and win in the heavyweight class of Robot Wars in both of the following two years. He is now (or at least the last time I heard) involved with the online company robotbooks.com (I'm not exactly sure how).
