I'm not doubting your observation, but we have always used the supplied damper screws and have never had a problem during use (we have torn them during installation by over zealous torquing). I'd like to hear from other teams who have used them and see what they have experienced - it's a pretty standard shock mount system.

The threads in the compressor base are #8-32 if you want to use a screw and some other damping material (grommet and mouse pad are both good ideas.). You can buy additional mounts on McMaster.com
