Whoa there! I'm not sure I quite understand here.
If I do understand, you are saying that the robot can
partially cross the finish line and reach back. This is true.
However, the original question in your post implies (definition of crossing) that you go
completely over the line and reach back. This is not legal and is worth a penalty.
Breaking the plane is
not the same as
crossing the lane marker/finish line. You can break the plane all you like in the counter-clockwise direction, but as soon as you cross fully, breaking the plane is a penalty. Period doesn't matter.
