IR Test Pattern?

One of our IR receiver boards appears to have an unusual problem. When we hook it up to power, it flashes lights and output signals in an elaborate, repetitive pattern, as though it's some sort of test pattern for the board. We can't figure out how to get it to stop this short of removing power, and while it is doing this it is completely unresponsive to IR signals. We did replace the receiver module with a 56kHz part, but it had been working with the modifications for a while before developing this problem.

Has anyone else had this or a similar problem? Is there a test program set for these, and if so, is there a way to get out of it? Is there a way to check the code on the board to see if it got erased/modified somehow and if so, restore it to the original program?
