for capturing on the cheep I recommend this
USB Capture device. It worked well for me last year and it runs off usb. for capturing to DV I would be be worried about hard drive space for most people, I recorded in wmv last year at about 2 mb/s and got about 15GB of footage for a regional. If you got a big external HD go ahead and record in DV.
