Just to throw a curveball (no pun intended), it seems like the competitions are usually about picking up objects and manipulating them in some way. How about expanding our thinking outside of the ball game box and thinking creatively about other things that a robot might be able to do. Here are some ideas off the top of my head. How about an obstacle course once (a la Dean's wheelchair). How about taking some raw material and manufacturing something? To pursue the alliance theme, how about something that would require two robots to accomplish the task, as in some initiative games - bots must assist each other or the task can't be completed. Maybe disassembling or assembling something or reassembling it, building something. Bear in mind that I'm just brainstorming here.
