VB has an easier syntax to learn, and you're more likely to encounter it in small apps.

C++ has a harder syntax learn, but many languages use "c syntax".

I didn't think anyone used FORTRAN these days.

If you expect to have to do low-level(Driver, OS, ect.) programming or large projects then take C++, otherwise take VB.
