Pink Team HS Graduates 233...in more ways than one

Yesterday, Cocoa Beach High School (one of The Pink Team's schools) graduated the Class of 2008 (of which I am a part!!!).

Can you guess the size of the graduating class?

72 earn IB diplomas, 2 get college degrees

Bianca Weiner was following in her mother's footsteps when she received her high school diploma from Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High on Friday.

"We've lived here all our lives," Weiner said. "We just never wanted to leave."

There were other second-generation graduates among the 233 students finishing their high school careers. The numbers also included 72 who received International Baccalaureate diplomas and two who earned Associate of Arts degrees from Brevard Community College along with their high school diplomas.

Hundreds packed into the school's commons area Friday night for the graduation of the Class of 2008.

The class included four valedictorians -- Teng Bao, Kyla Horn, William Kemmerer IV and Amanda Moyer.

Like Weiner, others said they had no intention of going very far, at least for the first two years of college.

"I'm going to BCC so I can stay close to home," said Nicole Spencer, who wants to be a veterinarian.

Ron and Anne Knuppel stood proudly as the graduates marched up to receive their diplomas. They were there to see their grandson, Christian Lopetz.

"He's my buddy," the grandfather said. "We click."

Ron Knuppel said Christian is a musician who wants to remain in the area.

"Once they break away, that's it," he said.

David Morefield was ready to move on from high school but still will miss it.

"A few months ago it seemed so far away," said the 18-year-old, headed to Brevard Community College on a scholarship "It came too fast. It's going to be different."

Morefield graduated Friday night and today will receive his Eagle Scout award.

I would also note that 11 of the 12 Pink Team senior graduating from CBHS received the IB Diploma. Congratulations to the Class of 2008!
