so, i had this really big, really in-depth reply going, and then my browser crashed. yay for opera.

anyway...

hits are counted each time any file is loaded.
graphics, html, cgi, etc.

so this page took 4 or 5 hits to load.

our counter in the top corner (000056981) is different.

it counts unique IP addresses, and doesnt count the same one twice until after a set amount of time (30 or 40 minutes i think)

our server will count uniquie visitors, never repeating an ip, i believe.

for the period of Mon->Saturday am, we had 7500 unique visitors who accounted for 253,000 hits.

anyway, hope that clarifies hits, our counter, and the 'real' numbers.

oh, and ken, give me your ip address, and ill tell you how many hits you have.


: ah well, don't be surprise when 30% of those hits are from me... or do you count hits by individual IP address?
