We first built a system which used two 60 pound gas springs from SPI attached to casters. It worked great. The springs would collapse but the combined 120 pound force would return the bot to level. Unfortunately, we ran overweight, so we chopped off the gas springs and casters and just let the bot frame hit the floor. It hit HARD. We just tied everything down very well and ran with it. Biggest problem was keeping the electrics together.
