Earlier in this thread there was discussion over the new award for design using the Aluminum and Plexiglas components and the effect that would have on "table top" teams that don't have access to workshops.

Now that we've seen the rules, I have to say that it seems that the restriction on bonding... no welding, glues, or anything from outside the kit... places some limits on how much of an advantage the teams with shop access have. Much of what you can do with these materials under these conditions is not outside the grasp of a patient "table top" team with an eye for detail.... and a lot of time with a hacksaw blade, vise, hand drill and some fine files.

Kudos to the FTC GDC for allowing a little bit of shop work without upsetting the balance too far in favour of the shops.
