Well, the general policy WHENEVER a site gets hacked (or cracked which is a better/more appropriate term but I digress) is to restore from a known good copy. The reason for this is that it's possible that the cracker could have installed trojaned programs on the computer. A trojaned program would allow the cracker to get back into the machine later on. As to why someone would crack SharingFIRST, mostly because it's there. Often times the cracker wants a base to commence other illegal activities (hosting warez, port scaning, jumping off point for other cracks, Distributed Denial of Service attacks, etc.). I'm just hoping that the SharingFIRST site admin installs the latest security patches in the future (that's the best way to prevent being cracked)....
