[OCCRA]: on the diversity tournament
It’s been brought up many times, but its really getting on my nerves: my team (and I believe OLSM as well) feel that the all girls portion of the tournament is unfair to us simply because we have no girls. The previous answer we got was "get girls", which is simply close to impossible. Yes, we could ask mercy or some other school, BUT due to logistics, the need to teach more people, and due to the fact we are an all guys school, we would probably lose support from the school. All of this for 3 matches? It’s downright unfair. I’m not saying that its a bad thing to try to get girls involved, but doing it at the blatant penalty to teams is wrong.
This being said, I see a few solutions:
1. Simply get rid of the all girls/guys portion.
2. Find a way for all guys teams to participate in the all girls. My idea: once the match list goes out, we ask a team we are partnered with or are in none of our matches to supply drivers/human player/vex driver. Guys would be allowed to work on the things in the pits.
now, the reasoning (this brings up a second issue) is that we still compete in the matches, scoring points we other wise wouldn’t be able to do (basic statistics. 2 people flip a coin. one flips his 10 times, but his first 3 tails don’t count. the second person flips his coin 7 times, counting all of his tails. who has more heads?). I do realize that matches are dropped, however those matches are still crucial to keeping the playing field level. This should also include matches that are canceled due to time requirements. All teams should (within reason) have identical amounts of matches at the end of the season, baring them forfeiting a match due to them not being ready. If the team is there and ready, they should be able to compete. If you need to sub in a robot at the end of the season to equal out the matches, the sub robot's total should not reflect that match's points.
