Last year after regionals (where we stripped 2 FP hubs) we zip tied the wheelchair wheels to the hubs after notching the WHEEL for the hub and then we used auto body epoxy on them to make shure they wouldent go anywhere. The heat the epoxy generated started to deform the plastic hubs. hehe
now on to my point.
I would try the hubs that small parts is offereing for the wheelchairwheels. or drive the wheels with a sprocket mounted on it and let it run on the shaft. so basically your driveing the wheel and not the shaft.

As far as the couplings I would try just some set screw ones if they are just holding the wheel in a certain position on the shaft. A good idea is to drill slightly into the shaft where the set screw will go to make shure that it doesent come out.
