It should be fairly simple to make your own remote control car, if that is all that you want to do. There isn't much of a reason to mess with Stamp 2s or innovation first controllers for just a remote controlled car. I've only been into a hobby shop once (To replace a burned out Tekin Speed controller, remember those?), but I seem to remember that they had everything that you would want to make a remote controlled car.
