: does anyone have pictures of their bots in the past years with their gear housing used as a mount for the drills?

: a description will go a long way too..

We posted these pictures last year: http://www.geocities.com/elliotjo/
There are some close ups on our motor mounts. They worked out very well in the competition. The main problem we had with it was a misalignment with the motor output shaft and the shaft with a sprocket that it connected to. Also, we figured out it was a better idea to have two bearings holding that same shaft rather than just one and the gearbox.
The motor and gearbox were held on with three aluminum brackets. Each bracket had two parts. One was welded to the same plate as the others, and the second plates screwed down to the top of the others. The plates didn't clamp down on the motors too much, it was mostly the shape of the motors and the plates that kept them in place. Sorry if that description makes no sense at all :-), hopefully the pictures will make more sense.

later,
Elliot Johnson
