i don't know about any rules, so i'm just dispensing my opinion...

last year at competition, teams had noise makers, whether it be home made or purchased... and some of them (not all of them) were very VERY very loud. example being tall wooden sticks which were used to smash against the stands. i guess nobody else noticed, but when i would walk in front of or behind the stands while that was happening, it would beat my ear drums, leave my ears ringing for half an hour afterwards, and give me a headache.
having spirit and going crazy for your team is great! i'm all for that, i mean just look at GRTs team at nationals. but sometimes it gets excessive, imho.
