A three-sectioned field with one robot from each alliance in the box, and you need to get game pieces from one side of the field to the other with the help of your teammates, or by flinging it all the way over?

They could do it so you can throw the pieces over, but the robot on the recieving end still has to pick it up and put it on a pylon or something to score. Think any one of FIRST's crazy stacking games.

Then you get three kinds of robots I can think of: Defenders (low to the ground, lots of torque, just there to mess your day up and push you around), Throwers (the name says it all) and, lets call them "Arms" (Arm-equipped robots that can pick up, pass, and stack the game pieces for scoring.

There, you retain the element that defense is important (assuming we're on carpet again, where you can actually push people around easily), but you can't exactly win if all you do is defend.

I kind of like that idea, actually. Teamwork isn't required but you'll get leaps and bounds farther.

Oh, but in the interest of fairness, let people choose which section to put their team's robot in. That way you don't get a defender on the end where it can't help you score at all. That'd be no bueno.
