They said during the kickoff that "high speed collisions would be very VERY frequent", so I don't think a 3 wheel robot would be stable enough to even take a hit, much less deal out the hits. You could, however, still do a 4 wheel design, but have the back two wheels closer together, similar to a Blackhawk Helicopter's landing gear design
